Sip This

Orange pekoe is the new black
green is always in style here, you see.
It's tea for two, if it's me, then it's tea for three.

Brewed strong too long or just oolong
not enough cream, or extra sugar spent.
Each refreshed cup tastes a bit different.

Tea sandwich fingerlings on brown bread.
The afternoon goes past on another pour
some Barry's or Bewley's and the Lyons roar.

Sometimes we talk too much.
Saucers hold spills and loose words.
Gossip will not stain the table linen.

Future lies at the bottom of the cup
Let me give you my full attention, I will listen
for once, to you speak and keep the secrets silent.

Conversation runs into dinner time, we speak more
eat less and less these days. Our journey is the prize.
Tea shared with you is more than tea, O beautiful and wise.
